Creative Task Survival Guide - A chord sequence:

Up to 5 chords (printed as triads, with chord names and tablature).

1/ Check with the teacher that you can play each chord correctly. The teacher will play the chords to you. Make sure you understand any sharps, flats or 7ths. Work out the key suggested by the chords – this will help you know how to end the piece.

2/ Start with playing the chords in order. But they don't have to be block chords – try variations or their arpeggios. Don't change the chords too quickly to start with. You can change the order of the chords later in your composition or just use two or three of them for a contrasting section - but avoid whole sections using completely different chords.

3/ Develop your musical ideas. Organise a clear structure to your composition with clear four bar phrases. Don't just repeat the same section twice without adding some variation. Does you composition show a contrast in... Range, Dynamics, Tempo & Articulation?
